I submit, for your consideration:

Batman, Tony Stark, and MacGyver. In a cave. With a box of scraps.

Discuss.
Title: Alone
Author: [info]genderblender
Rating: PG-13 (or so
Charaters: Booster/??? (A mysterious person! And I'm sorry, I'll be honest, it's not Ted. D: Shame on me)
Word count: 1805
Author's Notes: Okay, I admit it. I've been kicking this pairing around for a while, for a few legitimate reasons (or at least what I consider legitimate), and while I would love to tell you who it is, that would ruin the ending, so mums the word. But hey, what better way to start a new year than with a mystery? (At least Ralph would think so!) And totally dedicated to [info]michikohxd because without her, I don't I would have even thought of this.

Booster didn't have to celebrate the new year, because every moment he was working, it was a new year - he could experience the countdown over and over and over; he could stay in 2009 and never have to leave; he could even skip 2010 all together if he chose. )

Point 1: I gotsa a shiny for Christmas.

Point 2: It has been loaded up with several goodies.

Point 3: M'dad got me an Amazon GC for more goodies.

Point 4: M'playing Dragon Age because it's SHINY

Point 5: PSA - make sure not to close your flue if you have any open fire, chestnut-roasting or not... for more, IM me.

Point 6: I has SO MUCH YARN. It makes me happy.

Point 7: I am not sure how to start fof the Peaks Island Hood. The instructions for the shell motif are making me boggle.

Point 8: I just turned 26 a minute ago. Not sure if that's cool or weird.

Point 9: I have absolutely nothing planned for tomorrow because I long ago acknowledged the fact that my birthday is the Most Inconvenient Day Of the Year Ever and thus don't really expect anyone to be around to do anything.

Point 10: ...go see Sherlock Holmes or no? I'm a Doyle fan, so I'm wobbling. And rereading the free public domain copy on said previously-mentioned shiny.

...not much else, really.

Christmas Gifts

Beetle is, in a nutshell, a jerk.

Jordan Kennedy gets a burned copy of Beetle's favorite TV show, about women in prison.  Apparently it's very...HBO'ed.  The note with it says to use it in good health.

Squirrel will be given a gift basket of flea medication and furry porn.  Just because he's like that.

Scarlet gets a collection of bath salts, because he doesn't know her well and she is the Devil.

...

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 10:29 PM
Penny doesn't have a lot of packages, though she does leave a few.

Guppy gets a guide to Autism for parents, and Alex gets a sea monkey set.  No childhood is complete without sea monkeys.

Billy gets a hat, scarf, glove combo, a Christmas dinner delivered to his room, and an inspirational poster.

Al also gets a hat and scarf set.

Sam gets the first few pages of their rule book for Atton, with a post-it on top reading, "We should get to work soon!"

Christmas Gifts

So, Coreen's mun is a little late with the gifts.  You can't fault her.

Coreen and Squirrel have brought a bounty of gifts:

Scarlet will be receiving a batch of Squirrel's home-made acorn cookies and a trashy romance novel entitled, The Tarnished Lady.  Coreen just shrugged when he asked her to wrap it.

Amanda will be getting a potato launcher of her own, and a pair of skates.

Vicki will be receiving an extra-large tome of mythological creatures from Coreen's personal collection, with a note that if she needs supplies, come talk to her.

Tony and Edie get an throw, striped as Tony is, a '50s housewife-style apron with a strawberry embroidered on it, and a Mr. Beer microbrewery set.  Not that either of them need the encouragement.

Tino is given a tin of organic puppy treats.

Beetle will be getting left-over a Doe/Faraday tee-shirt that has suspicious stains on it.

Guppy will be getting some of the supplies Coreen and Squirrel used to squirrel and mutant-proof their place, along with a handwritten guide to all of it.

Alex will be getting a plush squirrel.

Thirteen will be getting 100,000 Of The Multiverse's Dirtiest Jokes, and the game Operation, because well, sometimes, you just need a laugh.

Rachel will be getting a plush squirrel also.

Moist will be getting a big book on card tricks, and other bar tricks.  Just in case.

Enzo gets a ramp for his skateboard.

Val von Doom gets a crocheted blanket in blue and gold, a plate of brownies made with Nutella, and a set of fingernail polishes.

Weyland gets a small vial that either contains ocean water or tears.  It's hard to tell, but it's salt water.  He may or may not get her reasoning behind it.

Al gets a copy of The Joy of Cooking, from way back when, with a few of Coreen's own recipes in there too.

Hedwig gets her next beer on Coreen, a book on divination, and glitter.  Oh yeah.

Greetings All!

I hope your winter celebrations have been/are/will be wonderful ^_^

I'm looking for a fic I read ages ago, but of course author and title escape me. Here's what I do remember:

-Howard has cancer and goes to visit Duo.
-Howard has trouble telling Duo that he's sick, though I think he does in the end. I think Heero figures it out first.
-He decides to get Heero and Duo together before he dies.
-I think it was written for a contest (GWYaoi novela, or Moments of Rapture probably).
-It's a longer fic, though I don't think it had chapters.

I just re-read Artemis' Rocket Man, and that got me thinking of this other fic.

Any leads would be most helpful :) Thank you all, and Happy Holidays/New Year.
Hi all. I caught a virus 4 months ago and was diagnosed with reactive airway/bronchial spasms. (I have been under treatment for seasonal allergies for a number of years. I get allergy shots, I take mucinex, and either allegra D or clarinex on a daily basis. )I was given pro air and advair inhalers. I got better, then caught a cold a month later and relapsed. This time I got 5 days of prednisone, which knocked it out. The next month I caught a stomach flu and afterwards wound up on an antibiotic for unrelated issues. I was doing awesome, only on the advair 2x a day, not a wheeze in sight until Christmas eve, when the weather began to get warm. (mold!) I got the post nasal drip, sinus thing, and then it went down to that damed cough again. In the past 2 days it got worse and tonight it's not good. (I have been getting up at night, but have been able to lie down flat and sleep for 4 hour chunks, which is better than last time, and no night sweats yet) Tonight I had a low grade fever, but clear mucus. I think I have a virus or cold or something, or a bit of a relapse from the nasty rainy weather and/or holiday stress. I'm drinking lots of fluids and taking the pro air every 4-5 hours as well as some otc dextromethorphan, and plenty of vitamin c and tea!

Tomorrow's a Sunday, so I plan to just hang in there and if not better, call either my allergist or pcp on Monday morning. I really don't want another round of prednisone, but I wonder if I'll need it to get better again. :(

Worst to worst, there is one of those emergency 24 hour offices that is on my insurance plan, but I would rather wait to get a hold of one of my "real" doctors.

I'm new to this all, is this typical? I'm used to the allergies laying low and flaring up, but the bronchial spasms are new, and I'm a little... worried? afraid? embarassed? I'm only 37, and allergies aside, have been mostly healthy. I feel like such a whiner. I feel like it's been one damed thing after another the past 4 months, and I wonder if it's typical to have a rough go of it until one learns to catch one's early symptoms at the right time and treat it properly to keep from getting quite ill.

I'm wise in the way of allergy stuff-sinus rinses, hepa filters, vaporizers, and hot packs, etc... No cats in my home and we don't smoke. What do you all do to prevent, treat at home, deal with or catch early this stuff?

Thanks in advance. Any comments, advice or anecdotes welcome! :)

Title Tachibana/Shinji Drabbles, Take 3
Rating Errr PG for a blink and you miss it reference to sex?
Pairing Tachibana/Shinji
Summary I promised there'd be a happy set of drabbles out. I'm not too good at "happy" though, so it was instead kind of fluffy and soppy. I tried.
Disclaimer I own none of it.

10 things meme
say ten things to ten people that you wish you could say. do not specify which is for who.
people can guess if they are one of the numbers or ask about them in the comments.

1: i like you. really, very much. if i ever say it, i'm saving the good words for that time. you're far too worth it to read them and wonder if they're for you.
2: i don't think you need dates and you aren't willing to admit that you have settled. maybe you don't know it yourself, yet. but it would cause a lot less hurt if you would or could bring the whole thing out.
3: i could help you, if you would just come talk with me again.
4: i think we're both moving away from blaming me. maybe we could converse peacefully again i hope so. i miss your friendship.
5: i wasn't kidding when i said that. too bad, huh?
6: every time i try to talk to you (which is now every year or two), you think i've come to romance you. dude, we broke up five years ago. I'm not exactly shedding tears, here. is it too much to ask for a conversation?
7: it's too bad we couldn't make it, like alex and niccolo. but your new one is an amazing person. i really want to chat with you again, but i don't think that would ever happen.
8: you went from dependable to a harsh monster in twenty minutes flat. what the hell? fuck you.
9: you're awesome to talk to and she's being a bitch. don't let her get you down.
10: you try so hard and you're taking steps forward. try to focus on 'what i achieved', not 'what I didn't or cannot'. DBT might be helpful for you and him both, but he would kill me for suggesting it, perhaps.

Fanfic: A Shadows Christmas

Crossposted with [info]windsoftomorrow

Title: A Shadows Christmas
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Liz/Kid/Patti
Type: Fanfic
Genre: General/Family
Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater
Warnings: ...Kittens?
Summary: Their first Christmas together was an improvised affair.
Notes: This was written as a gift to [info]alice_rm and is set in my alternate universe story, Shadows on the Walls with a few references to the different continuity. It...probably will mostly make sense if you've never read any of it, but personally? I'd love it if you went to read it. If there's interest, I might do a follow-up of Soul/Maka. And yes, I know it's Boxing Day. I felt it more important to get this beta'd than get it up by Christmas.

(A Shadows Christmas)

Oh my god I am freaking out I don't know what to do

In 2007 I had to reteach myself to walk. I don't know if anyone knew about it at the time, but I let the information out somewhere in 2008 or 2009.

I was stuck on a medical prescription that they did not know what it would do to me. My doctor would not help much at all. Anyway, it did stuff it shouldn't and eventually progressed so that I couldn't walk, before luckily another treatment saved the day.

Same thing is happening now. I predict I will be bed bound by Tuesday.

I had the crutches that help me walk and keep this shit from happening. But they got stolen. There's a very specific style I need, but on eBay it's a lot cheaper (amazon too). But cheaper doesn't mean able to buy. We're trying to get the money together, hopefully that will work out.

I - does anyone have any ideas about how I could fashion one of these things? It's half cuff style or european half cuff that I can use. Anything larger hurts, and regular crutches are a no here. XD; All I need is one, so if we can figure this out, it doesn't have to be duplicated.

So, yeah. Does anyone have any ideas on how to Macgyver one of these babies?

...

Okay, so. Have a proper post-Christmas update, plus random thoughts. In bullet format!

* I don't do a Christmas Haul List these days, because I'm lazy and I don't think you guys care that much, so here are the highlights that might actually be interesting:

Series one and four of Doctor Who! Amazon had a one-day sale like a month ago where the seasons were something like thirty-five bucks each, which is much better than usual freaking eighty or whatever ridiculous amount every single place I've been to charges for them. I let my mom know, told her which ones I wanted most, and voila. I may buy series three for myself out of completist urges (and because it's also awesome, but on that particular day I prioritized Nine and Donna over Martha; sorry, Martha), but I'll skip series two unless I find it really really cheap someday, because there aren't enough eps I rewatch relatively often for it to be worth the money.

An iCarly calendar. Which only [info]sotto_voice cares about, but still. XD

ELECTRIC TEA KETTLE. These things are not exactly ubiquitous in the States, and I've wanted one for so long. Plan for when I have extra money again: buy lots of delicious tea. ♥

* My mom kind of collects performances of "O Holy Night," so I played her the John Barrowman version I stumbled across a while ago. She loved it, was interested when I told her he was a trained stage singer and there was more Barrowman where that came from (oh my god SHE HAS NO IDEA), and long story short too late, it looks like I'll be legally purchasing a copy of Another Side after all. And probably Reflections from Broadway. She has a birthday next month, after all.

And, thanks to comments Mom made about useful birthday gifts and the boringness thereof, I think I will pack them in a box of tampons. I firmly believe Barrowman would approve. (Come on, you know he would.)

* One of our holiday traditions includes watching Love, Actually while wrapping gifts late Christmas Eve. I will have to add this to the list (short, but slowly growing) of things that The Thick of It has, uh, enhanced, because during the scene at the pageant where the curtain rises on the Prime Minister kissing the assistant chick, I was giggling helplessly at the thought of the bricks Malcolm Tucker would shit over that. I think this is a crossover that needs to happen.

* YULETIDE. My recipient adored hir fic and was one of those able to get a comment through before everything asplode, and it was a long awesome comment and I can't wait for the reveal so I can reply. XD The fic I received was an adorable Sam-centered iCarly fic, which was just what I wanted. It is a fandom crying out for non-shippy Samfic.

* And finally, regarding last night's Doctor Who: My first though upon becoming conscious enough to have thoughts this morning was, "Oh my god, what did I watch last night?"

So. Dude. I took pictures of my minis? And it took about... maybe an hour, hour and a half of fiddling with the lights (I need to remember NOT to do it in a room where the sun is shining on them) and the camera settings and the setup and so on? But I think I have achieved some pretty damn spectacular mini pictures.

I cut because I care )

More pictures as I figure out this whole mini picture taking thing. I know the principle and the theory, but I'm still getting used to the practice.

So, yeah, any time you see me going on and on about painting minis, this is what I'm talking about. It's annoyingly sitting still hunched over work, but damned if they don't look really nifty when they're done. I may put something in there for size reference later, most of them are between, um, an inch tall (well, dire rat!) to, maybe four inches tall? No, I'll put in a ruler later so you guys can see. I actually have no idea.

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Jail fic! Angsty romance

Disclaimer: Not mine, just borrowed, blah.

Chapter 1

Chapter 2

Chapter 3

Chapter 4
Life is good. I slept late today and had an odd dream about a cruise ship, a performance with Damien Lewis and Miranda Otto in it, a knife attack and also in the midst of it all, a really lovely conversation with my flatmate from Wellington who I still regret not being brave enough to ask out properly.

Since my watch battery is dead, I had to go look at my mother's computer to see the time and on this lazy, grey day, I slept until noon. So far the only major bump of today was that I scratched off the code from my iTunes gift card so hopefully they can get me another one without a problem.

I wanted to also share the lovely story that I got for Yuletide that's from the world of Diana Wynne Jones' and her Magids' series. If you don't know it, go find a copy of Deep Secret.

From the Files on Wonderland

When Rupert wants to take Maree out on a surprise date, the quarrel they have is only the beginning of their troubles.

I'm so glad that I've started doing Yuletide and each year I plan on doing even more since I love writing and there's a wonderful challenge to it since I ended up writing for a fandom that I've never written for before. Also as I have the time to look through everyone's recs and through all the stories, I'm sure I'll post a few more recs.

In other news, I would really love to actually start Old Kingdom plot things. A lot of the delay has been my fault with the end of the semester but I don't have to do anything until January 5th. So I'd love to know the schedules and time commitments of everyone who volunteered to help. I have the basic plot outlined, its just a matter of putting together OOMs, figuring out what Touchstone looks like and uploading some icons into the Charter NPC account. I'm really looking forward to doing this and feel so grateful to be part of a such a great small but mighty cast.

Small edit-I love writing little ficlet gifts and since I don't have everyone's address to send them holiday cards but still want to do things for those on my flist.

Please request a couple-friendship or more shippy and whatever prompt you'd like and I'll write you something.

After-Christmas Linkspam.

Stuck in O'Hare for a six-hour layover. Time for linkspam! Whoo-hoo!

First, it wouldn't be Yuletide without Mahabharata fics, and this year's offerings are both about Karna. Suck it, Arjuna. And they are both absolutely amazing works. Go, read!

Next, another succinct response to Avatar that says it all a lot more eloquently then I ever could. Also, a new Internet Law. And finally, this post is several months old, but it's been re-linked around recently and definitely deserves another round of signal boosting. Money quote:

"The conversations about resistance to societal pressures which make me the most uncomfortable and disturbed are often the ones I should note the most because there's a reason they make me feel so uncomfortable. This discomfort and subsequent confrontation of my own privilege is *not* disenfranchisement and I think it's wrong to say that it is. The reproach that troubles me is very rarely, if ever, from the people who are oppressed and suffering and speaking. The reproach comes from within me because I know I should care and in trying to find balance and ease with that reproach and my joy. I like things that are problematic. The problems do not go away if I pretend they are not there; my conscience does not rest easy when I work to silence the voices that trouble me. I am not a bad person for enjoying things that have problems; I am not the good guy who only likes good things and thus, the things that I like must be good. It’s more complicated that that, I am more complicated than that. We are all more complicated than that."

Quoted for Great Truth.
Wow, crazy-busy weekend. Crazy crazy busy busy. Work on Monday is starting to look relaxing.

Congratulations, your pup is now a god! How would he/she like offerings to be made?

(If your pup already is a god, what do they like, and how do they feel about inferior offerings?)

Alternately, what is the worst gift your pup has ever given or received?
